Dear friends,
For those of you who attended the 30th Annual Auction Napa Valley, it was great to see you; what a fabulous event! This year was a remarkable success, raising $8.5 million, an increase of 49% over last year’s $5.7 million. At Raymond, we were very excited to help support the community and offered one wine from every vintage produced at Raymond, dating to 1974, as well as a dinner with Walter Raymond, Stephanie Putnam, Philippe Melka, and myself, that went for $45,000.
The past month has been filled with meetings with architects as we remodel the Raymond Vineyards Tasting Room (BEFORE & AFTER) and build a new office there for the Boisset team (we’re moving). We are also remodeling a fabulous space on the square in downtown Healdsburg to create Boisset Taste of Terroir, a tasting room opening this month that will showcase Burgundian and California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay side-by-side (read more below).
I wish all of you a very happy beginning to your summer as I head off to France for a few weeks; for those of you in the Bay Area, be sure to come to see me at the end of the month at Pinot Days. I will be presenting Domaine de la Vougeraie at the “In Trivial Pursuit of Pinot Noir” seminar in addition to pouring Vougeraie, DeLoach Vineyards, and JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset at the trade and grand tastings. Pinot Days is an absolutely fabulous event and is one of the most up and coming Pinot events in the U.S. I look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the magnificent Pinot Noir grape!
Warmest and faithfully personal wishes,
Jean-Charles Boisset

Raymond Vineyards Invites Elite Sommeliers To Create Its 2008 Sommelier Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Wine scheduled to be released in August 2010

On June 3, Raymond proudly hosted a group of well-respected sommeliers to create the 2008 Sommelier Selection Cabernet Sauvignon blend, the first vintage of this new Cabernet to be blended by sommeliers for sommeliers. The sommeliers were handed pipettes, beakers, and a selection of varietals including several different lots of Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The participating sommeliers:
After several hours of blending and debating, the group selected their favorite blend: a combination of mostly Napa Vally Cabernet Sauvignon with some Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, plus a touch of Napa Valley Cabernet Franc and Merlot; and Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2008 vintage is slated to be released in August 2010 and will feature information about the sommeliers who created the blend on the bottle.

Boisset Taste of Terroir To Open in Healdsburg!
A unique exploration of terroir showcases Sonoma County and Burgundian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
When Jean-Charles found out that a gorgeous space on the square in downtown Healdsburg in northern Sonoma County had become available, he jumped at the opportunity. For years, he had envisioned creating a unique tasting room experience where Burgundy and California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay would be served side by side; the new Boisset Taste of Terroir is the realization of this dream. The tasting room’s mission is to lead visitors through the history of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from their birthplace to their continuum, educating people on the effect terroir has on a grape while simultaneously helping to demystify French wines, which are often seen as confusing or intimidating.
The tasting flights range from $8 to $100 and include extremely rare wines from the Boisset portfolio, typically only found in exclusive, high-end restaurants, from the following wineries: Bouchard Aîné et Fils, Jean-Claude Boisset, Domaine de la Vougeraie, DeLoach Vineyards, and JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset. There will also be a sparkling wine flight of Louis Bouillot Crémant de Bourgogne. Hours will initially be 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. seven days a week, with longer hours on weekends anticipated to begin mid-summer.
The tasting room opens its doors later this month; to see photos of construction, please visit the Boisset Taste of Terroir Facebook page.

Louis Bernard Côtes-du-Rhône Named a “Top Pick” by Sheri Sauter Morano, MW
One of fifty French wines selected nationwide for the Wines of France campaign

Wines of France is a group dedicated to promoting French wines in the U.S. to both trade and consumers. In 2004, they brought on the youngest female American Master of Wine, Sheri Sauter Morano, MW, as spokesperson for the Wines of France campaign. Sheri compiles an annual list of her “Top Picks” of French wines and promotes them around the United States through in-store tastings, television show appearances, and her blog. This year’s goal was to find great value wines between $8 and $20 that embraced “French heritage and tradition with a resolutely modern outlook - the best of both worlds!”
Louis Bernard Côtes-du-Rhône was selected by Sheri as one of her 50 “Top Picks.”
Sheri writes:
“The Louis Bernard Côtes du Rhône is a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah and the ripe sweet cherry fruit of Grenache is fully evident on this wine. Perfect for a party wine or for serving with a plate of grilled sausages, peppers and mushrooms, the Louis Bernard is a nice example of some of the reliable easy-drinking reds made in the Rhone Valley today.”
